Whitchurch Carnival Queen and Princess 2012
We are excited to announce the selection of our New Carnival Queen, Princess and Attendants.
The selection is as follows:
Carnival Queen
12 year old Natasha Saunders
Attendants
12 year old Katherine Woodman
11 year old Beth Wiltshire
Carnival Princess
9 year old Summer Coughtrey
Attendant
8 year old Madison Coughtrey
All girls are pupils are from Whitchurch schools and 10 girls entered the competition. The judges had a difficult choice to make and are very pleased with the final decision. Both the judging panel and the festival committee hope that those not fortunate enough to be chosen this year will join us again next year as all were worthy entrants.
Throughout 2012 the Girls will be involved in all the events that Whitchurch Festival Association puts on. You will first see them being crowned at the May Day event which is a lovely celebration of spring time. They will then start off the Great Whitchurch Pub Race and present the awards to the winners. Their pinnacle event will be to lead the community of Whitchurch in Carnival through the town on July 7th to our summer fete; this will be part of the QEII field day in honour of the playing field designation as part of the Diamond Jubilee. They will then be seen at the Circus event, then the Bonfire and Firework night where they set will ignite the fire with the Town Mayor, and then finally at the We'll Meet Again event where they interact with the guests by serving the food, running the raffle and chatting with the guests. I am sure you will join us in wishing them well with their very busy and exciting diary.
Finally I would like to mention Cindy Dunlop and Pauline Williams who manage the Carnival Queen & Princess throughout the year as well as putting on the May Day event. They not only do a fantastic job on this, but something which is little known is that they hand make the beautiful dresses that the Queen, Princess and attendants wear. Each dress is tailored made to fit the girls perfectly, all of which takes many hours for each dress to be created every year, all of which Cindy and Pauline do voluntarily. The dresses for 2012 will be unveiled for the first time at the May Day Celebrations and Crowning Ceremony May 5th 2012.
Pictures of the evening and of the girls will be uploaded to our website very soon.
